This Accounting Manager will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information, prepare financial reports and analyze results. Perform accounting functions of maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial statements, preparing budgets and forecasts. This position will require quality, timely and accurate financial reporting. Serve as backup for Controller functions.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform accounting functions including maintaining the general ledger, preparing monthly preliminary financial reports, preparing financial statements, monthly budget reports and general ledger account analysis.
  •  Responsible for preparing and reviewing audit support schedules.  Work closely with the Controller in preparing the annual audited financial statements along with the notes and supporting schedules.
  •  Gather financial information and prepare support schedules for the Firm’s external CPAs to prepare the federal, states and local tax returns and partner K-1 packages. Assist the Controller with reviewing tax returns and K-1s.
  • Prepare quarterly estimated state and local tax payments and transfer requests.
  • Manage the Staff Accountant and the Accounting Coordinator and their functional areas.
  • Assist the Controller with the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
  • Analyze balance sheet transactions, research, and make corrections. Follow-up with other Finance personnel to ensure account reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare various quarterly and annual industry and government surveys.
  • Work with the Payroll department and Controller to update partner monthly and quarterly draw schedules.
  • Maintain equipment leases files & submissions. Submit quarterly lease requests with summary form and supporting invoice copies.
  • Prepare financial package and Controller's memo for distribution to the partners.
  • Prepare portions of and assemble book highlighting monthly results.  Distribute to the Executive Committee and other key management personnel.
  •  Calculate and file property tax returns and other business returns.
  • Complete fixed asset reporting and prepare summary reports and budget reporting.
  • Create, maintain, and update applicable policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
  •  At least 6-10 years of related accounting experience is required.
  • Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant or equivalent experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with federal, state & local taxes preferred but not required.
  • Prior experience working in a law firm preferred but not required.

  • Strong understanding of U.S. accounting principles and practices.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, work additional hours during certain times of the month, quarter and during the annual year-end close and tax preparation period of January through April.

Thompson Hine LLP is seeking a full-time (37.5 hours/week) Litigation Legal Assistant (Administrative Specialist) to join our downtown Cleveland, Ohio office.  This position is part of the Firmwide Administrative Support Center (“FASC”), our shared-services support team.   

 

The FASC provides high-level administrative and litigation support to attorneys, paralegals, and professional staff across all Thompson Hine offices.  Key responsibilities include document editing and formatting; proofreading; generating tables of contents and tables of authorities; entering attorney time; preparing and submitting expense reports; processing new business intake requests; coordinating travel; performing data entry; conducting document comparisons; assisting with trial, deposition, and arbitration preparation; and collaborating with attorneys, staff, and other departments as needed.  Because heavy document formatting is a core function of this role, candidates must have substantial, demonstrated experience formatting legal documents, including stripping and applying styles, numbering schemes, and complex formatting structures.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships in a collaborative team environment. After successfully completing at least a 90-day training period, this position is eligible to participate in a hybrid (in-office/remote) schedule.  Occasional overtime and schedule adjustments may be required to accommodate workflow.

  • Oversee all office hospitality functions, including conference rooms, inventory, stocking and supply ordering.
  • Assist with attorney time entry, as needed.
  • Oversee mail distribution and pickups, the distribution of all overnight packs from other offices, and the receipt and distribution of all incoming faxes.

Reporting to the Chief Practice Innovation Officer, and working closely with the Chief Information Officer, the Specialist will serve as product and project manager for tool evaluation, configuration, and deployment across legal and administrative use cases, while acting as a subject matter expert on the firm's broader innovation toolkit.

 

This role requires a blend of technical acumen, business analysis, change management skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Facilitate the implementation of innovation initiatives and related practice technology utilized by practitioners, including but not limited to contract analysis software, document automation tools, e-signature software, client collaboration tools, task management tools, data visualization dashboards, and transaction management solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Practice Innovation Officer and Chief Information Officer to assess, evaluate, and recommend potential innovation tool acquisitions, including conducting market research and preparing comparative analyses.
  • Serve as product/project manager for the development, configuration, and/or implementation of innovation tools, particularly those leveraging OpenAI’s GPT or other large language models, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
  • Guide lawyers and staff in customizing and leveraging innovation tools including AI solutions to address specific practice needs, designing workflows and providing hands-on support.
  • Organize and manage trials, pilots and POCs for new innovation tools the Firm is considering.
  • Evaluate workflows and technology usage across legal and business services teams to identify gaps and recommend technology-enabled or process-based improvements.

The Senior Billing Specialist will  communicate directly with partners, associates, and legal secretaries, as well as other members of the Finance department, in connection with various aspects of client billing. This role will prepare complex multi-payor, consolidated and split billing while managing a large volume of client billing for an assigned group of attorneys.

 

Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare monthly and ad-hoc prebills for attorney review and approval, with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  2. Prepare and revise draft bills, processing attorneys’ comments and revisions.
  3. Review prebills/draft bills to ensure matters are compliant with client outside counsel guidelines.
  4. Thoroughly understand firm, client, matter and exception rates, advanced and courtesy discounts.
  5. Confirm that applicable rates and any fee arrangements are reflected properly on all matters.
  6. Submit requests for timekeeper and rate approval when necessary.
